Steinbeis Papier GmbH

From pioneer to European market leader

At Steinbeis Papier, we believe in a green revolution – and we have done for over 40 years. Our portfolio is manufactured from 100% reclaimed paper and is produced in an energy-efficient, low-emission and resource-saving manner in one of the most modern paper mills in Europe. As the market leader in recycled graphical papers, we’re rethinking a lot of things – and not just paper. This can be seen in all our value chains.

ReThinkingPaper

We’re rethinking many things

We make more than just recycled paper. We’re ReThinkingPaper.
Read on to find out what that means.

We’re rethinking paper...

...with 100% reclaimed paper, 79% less water, 73% less energy and 42% less carbon. In production, we deliberately avoid chemicals that are harmful to the environment and health. That is why we meet the strictest ecological and quality criteria of the leading environmental and consumer protection labels. Our papers all carry the Blue Angel and EU Ecolabel.

We’re rethinking consumption

Not only do we reduce our own ecological footprint. We help others to do the same. We produce and deliver our recycled paper, but we also collect waste paper for it directly from around the region and from our customers. This is how we complete the recycling process and ensure our production stays supplied with reclaimed paper as a raw material. Paper, after all, is almost infinitely recyclable.

We’re rethinking water

Not only do we use less water. We use our factory’s own fully biological waste water treatment plant to produce even more clean water. Every drop of water in our factory is fed into almost entirely closed circuits and used several times over.

We’re rethinking energy

We don’t just use green energy. We produce it ourselves. We have our own power station on site. Utilising the very latest fluidised bed technology and combined heat and power generation, our power plant covers 100% of our thermal energy in the form of steam and 50% of our electrical energy requirements. This puts its efficiency at 87%. It is operated using substitute fuels.

We’re rethinking waste products

As we all know, the best waste is the one that isn’t produced in the first place. By using closed material cycles, we try to avoid the creation of non-recyclable waste. The small amounts of waste that do arise despite all our efforts get turned into substitute fuels, which we recycle thermally in our power plant.

We’re rethinking technology

Paper with a future: our plant in Glückstadt is one of the most modern recycling plants in Europe. We have invested more than €360 million in recent years to be able to produce the best recycled paper for you using purely ecological processes. And we are constantly improving.
